By far the most interesting documentary shown by the Soc Sci unit. (Oh, and Camia, don't worry, we weren't expected. ;D)
Qin Shi Huang, personal name Ying Zheng, was the first emperor of China. He ruled his state Qin from 246-221 B.C.E. He united China into one empire from 221-210 B.C.E.
He was the eldest son of King Zhuangxiang of Qin, whose adviser was Lu Buwei. (who later became Qin Shi Huang's prime minister) Lu Bwei had a concubine that King Zhuangxiang liked and so, Lu Buwei presented her. Her name was Zhao Zeng, meaning concubine from Zhao.
There is a controversy on Qin Shi Huang's lineage, as it was said, that Zhao was pregnant with Lue Buwei's child when she was presented of Zhuangxiang. However, this is highly unlikely due to the fact that Qin was born one year after Zhao was prsented to Zhuangxiang.
Zhuangxiang ruled for only three years before dying. Qin was only thirteen years of age when he became king of the state of Qin. Lu Bwei became Qin's prime minister. But only after three months of rule, Qin was influenced by an ambitious scholar: Li Si.
Li Si convinced Qin that he was indeed of the most powerful state in China and that it was one chance in 10,000 years for him to be able to unite the seven states of China. Impressed by Li's ability and plan, Qin readily agreed to it.
Lu Bwei was fearful that Qin would discover his affair with Zhao, Qin's mother. He distanced himself and looked for a replacement king. He cast his die on Lao Ai, a man disguised as a eunuch by plucking his beard. Lao Ai had two sons with Zhao, whom he plotted to place on the throne.
Lao Ai stole Zhao's seal and mobilized an army to start a coup d'etat, which failed. Lao Ai was dismembered, his family , including his sons, killed. Zhao was put on house arrest until her death while Lu Bwei was exiled. Lu Bwei, however, committed suicide, a broken man. Li Si replaced him as prime minister.
And the story goes on. But it's too long.=)))) Least I got to some juicy parts. 8D
